01

What is a certified translation in Mexico?

A certified translation in Mexico is a translation of a document from one language to another, done by an expert translator (perito en traducción) who guarantees its accuracy and faithfulness.

02

Who is an expert translator in Mexico?

An expert translator (perito en traducción) is a translation graduate specialized in a specific language, officially listed by judicial authorities in Mexico. Mexican judicial authorities use these lists when they need to choose an expert translator to translate a document.

03

What does a certified translation look like in Mexico?

A certified translation usually includes a signed statement from the expert translator declaring that the translation is complete and accurate.

This signed statement may also include the translator’s contact details, number of pages translated, as well as the city and date of certification.

Finally, each page of the translated document must be sealed and signed by the expert translator.

04

What types of translations does an expert translator provide?

Expert translators produce reports for judicial processes, i.e., translate documents used by the Mexican judicial authorities.

They also translate official documents such as birth certificates, academic transcripts, and court rulings for academic, immigration, or administrative purposes.

Furthermore, due to their knowledge of various subjects and areas of expertise, they can also translate highly specialized scientific and technical documents, such as financial reports, clinical research protocols, software manuals, and product documentation.

05

What languages do I work with?

I specialize in English and French translations, with Spanish as my main working language.

For non-certified projects, I can also translate from Portuguese and simplified Chinese into my main working languages.

06

How long does it take to translate a document?

Translation time varies based on document length, complexity, and language. On average, a professional translator can translate about 1,500 to 2,000 words per day. Technical or specialized documents take longer, while simpler texts may be faster. Additional time is needed for proofreading and formatting, so small documents might take 1-2 days, and larger or complex ones several days or more. For exact timing, it’s best to request a quote.

07

How much does it cost to translate a document?

Translation costs depend on several key factors: the subject matter, the document format, and the languages involved. Specialized or technical subjects typically cost more because they require expert translators. The format matters because editable files (like Word documents) are easier and cheaper to work with compared to PDFs or images that need extra handling. Language pairs also affect pricing—common languages tend to be less expensive, while rare languages cost more due to fewer available specialized translators. Overall, prices vary based on these elements, so it’s best to request a quote for an accurate cost estimate.
